Encyclopedia of Shinto: http://eos.kokugakuin.ac.jp/
The online Encyclopedia of Shinto is the English translation of the Shinto jiten edited by the Institute for Japanese Culture and Classics and published by Kobundo in 1994 (the text as translated here reflects certain emendations to the original Japanese version). Links to video images, illustrations, photographs and sound files have been added anew.
The original Shinto jiten is the most widely used general work of reference regarding Shinto in Japan today. It is our hope that by introducing the results of modern Shinto research through this medium, we will contribute in some way to the further growth of international research on Shinto and Japanese culture. We hope it finds use not only by scholars, but by students and others with an interest in Japan.
This project is one element of the Kokugakuin University 21st Century Centers of Excellence Program, “Establishment of a National Learning Institute for the Dissemination of Research on Shinto and Japanese Culture” under the auspices and support of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
